Dira is a healing center/nature retreat, which is in a hidden corner of Tuscany called Lunigiana. The purpose of the center is to provide a space where people can come and enjoy the stunning beauty of the countryside; eat kosher vegetarian Mediterranean food; creatively interact with their environment through music, gardening, building, meditation, and experiencing the pleasures of Shabbat.
From an altitude of 850 metres above sea level you look out on two mountain ranges, the Appennines and the Alpi Apuane, converging by the sea north of Pisa. Terraced pastures and rich chestnut forests cover the slopes where, in the early morning mists, the prized Porcini s abound, a delicacy to the gourmets of Europe. Medicinal herbs grow wild in great variety and quantity around Dira, pollinated all summer by hundreds of butterflies.
