Volunteers
2004 - the foundations
Volunteers are the heart of this project. There are many ways to understand volunteers’ contributions to Dira. First and foremost is that all effort should come freely and creatively, without any thought of compulsion or exploitation. Some have a feel for cooking (where would we be without them?), others have an insatiable passion for building stone walls, and then there are the select few who desire nothing else but to pick wild raspberries from the surrounding meadows. Everyone has a place here. Enthusiasm and spirit are the only tools you need to bring.
At present the old stone barn is being restored , land is being cleared, and gardens planted. Working on this project is an opportunity to learn new skills and maybe discover a part of yourself you never knew existed. Over the past few years volunteers have come and made amazing contributions, from baking fruit pies to laying roof tiles. We would like to thank all of them and show you what they have accomplished
